Back to the long run this week. D.C. is so peaceful at 7am on Sundays — few cars, no people, plenty of calm as the sun comes up.
I wanted to run at least a little bit longer than my first long attempt two weeks ago. Anywhere from 12 to 14 miles would work. I also wanted to try a different route — not the typical Mall loop or running through NW. So I headed down 14th to cross the bridge and hit the Mount Vernon trail.
Turns out getting on the pedestrian path over the bridge isn’t as easy as I thought.
Once I crossed the river, I headed south toward Gravelly Point, where you can watch the plans take off and land from Reagan Airport. The trail was snowy and icy in some places, but there wasn’t another soul in sight. And I got to watch the sun rise across the Potomac. Just me, a beautiful sun and untouched snow.
The perfect Sunday run.
12.00 miles, 1:55:09.
I recovered with chocolate milk and an 11am brunch at Dino with a group of other D.C. brunch bloggers. Check back shortly for a review of the meal on Ladies Who Brunch!
Lululemon yoga this afternoon. I wish the weekend could last forever.
