This morning I accomplished more before 8am than a lot of people will all day.
The awesome Emily of Sweat Once A Day invited me along for an early morning swim and spin class at the DC YMCA. Hello, 5:35am.
The Y pool is short course — HECK YES — and super close to my apartment, which is a nice alternative to my trek up to Wilson. Also, we had a lane to ourselves and were able to swim sides, a reprieve from the overcrowding I’m accustomed to.
It was so fun to have a training partner, especially one that’s my speed and willing to do interesting sets. Plus, it’s always nice to have someone else contribute ideas and push you a little bit harder. Here’s the rundown:
1000 warmup: 400 MI (kick/swim), 200 kick, 200 pull, 8 x 50 (fast/easy)
2 x [5 x 100 free, descending easy to fast]
6 x 50 kick, build
2 x [3 x 50 free, descending easy to fast]
For a total of 2650m in 1 hr.
After last night’s looooong and steady swim, it was nice to mix it up a bit. After we finished, we quickly jumped out, changed and headed up to the spin room for a 45-min session. Emily is a great instructor: I’ve never liked gym spin classes, but I felt like I got a great workout and was engaged the entire time. Awesome playlist, a wide variation of climbs and sprints and overall a great way to start my morning.
I also realized I just completed my first brick workout of the season. I LOVE bricks — and I’m so pumped for the weather to warm up so I can really take advantage of them. Sunny spring, please come soon?
In summary, Friday workout, check! And now I can start my weekend…
