The Burrito Ride

Happy non-shutdown Saturday!

I was able to reclaim my weekend — and not be on call for work — which means I had plenty of time to go for a long ride this afternoon. After working at an early-morning race, I met up with Katie and Lauren for a little jaunt out to Great Falls.

Bike Helmets: The Definition of Sexy

These girls rock. We rode to the T, as it’s known among area triathletes and cyclists, a course that includes some solid hills and plenty of practice climbing and descending. Today’s takeaway: I’m a really solid climber but just mediocre at everything else. That’s why Wisconsin will be such a great race — it’s hilly and I won’t have to spend miles and miles just hammering away on the flats.

In any case, the weather was crappy and cold — is it April, or isn’t it? — and each time we stopped for fuel it was harder and harder to get going again. My toes were frozen solid at the end of 50 miles. Note to self: purchase booties or toe covers next season.

At some point in the ride, Katie pointed out that the best thing we could possibly do at the end would be to stop at Qdoba in Georgetown for burritos. End goal and something to strive for? Check.

No better way to end a great ride than with food and gossip.

Full disclosure: I did not get a burrito because I ate a huge meal before we headed out. But next time we do this, I’m totally in for stuffing my face with Tex-Mex.

On a different note, I swam 5500m on Friday night. Boom.

Though, I’m disappointed that you didn’t eat the burrito. You deserved it!
