Three Things Thursday: Windy Edition

Who else is over the gusting winds in D.C.? Because I am.

1. My first 70.3 is just a week and two days away. That hadn’t really ocurred to me until — uh — today. I haven’t done any transition practice, no open water swims, no wetsuit removals. Just swim/bike/run. And only one brick. I know last minute training is more hurtful than helpful, but now I’m a little bit panicked. I probably will do a brick on Saturday, attempt an open-water/wetsuit swim on Sunday post-Peasantman and (maybe) try a transition or two next week. The good thing is that my transitions already are pretty tight and don’t matter as much in a half IM as in a sprint. I’d rather be comfortable and not forget my sunglasses or nutrition than save a few seconds. In any case, the pressure is on. Tri season is here.

2. I really miss boxing. When I lived in Atlanta for a summer, I joined LA Boxing and went to class every single day. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I was in the best shape I’ve ever been in. The weight I gained from being trapped inside during my semester in the Russian winter melted off within two weeks and I felt amazing. I even got in the ring a few times to spar with the instructor. No gym boxing class has ever compared to the intensity or seriousness of that workout. Unfortunately, a membership here in D.C. is like $130 a month, which I just can’t justify. Nor do I have the time to go everyday given my other training. If I had unlimited resources and all the time in the world, I’d add it back into my repertoire. [Fun fact: We got to box during the Great Urban Race last May. I was amped.]

3. After a week or so of eating pretty poorly (or well, depending on how you look at it), it’s my goal to get back on track with my meals. That means less mindless snacking, less sugar, more planning. I’m also working out less than I was back in Feb/March — before my training plan actually started, oddly enough — so I feel crappier when I eat like crap. And sleep worse, and skip workouts. So, after today’s Cinco de Mayo lunch, I’m taking control of this problem. Racing weight, or something like that…

  1. 1. you will rock the 70.3, woop woop! especially when you see my little face cheering you on from the side lines!

    2. I LOVE LA boxing! I did it a few times but couldnt afford it anymore in DC

    3. I cant wait to read racing weight! Ive been alot more aware of what I have been eating. Except for tonight when I stuff my face with fajitas.
