1. I got some goodies in the mail today! Last week I ordered a racing kit from the awesome ladies at Soas, and I’m hoping this will be the first (and obviously most important) time I’m comfortable in what I’m wearing while racing. I also received two things I’ve had on my list for awhile — a black Headsweats visor and some 2XU calf compression sleeves. Just in time for my last long ride and run and for race day.
2. I had two running “firsts” at track this week. Never have I ever come so close to puking during a workout as I did last night. The intervals were really challenging and — as it was my last hard and fast set before taper — I was giving it everything I had. In that last three minutes, man, I was really concerned about the state of my stomach. Then when I took my shoes off to put on flip-flops, I had a bloody toe. Now all that’s left is for my nail to fall off, and I’ll have hit all my running milestones. Such is life.
3. On a related note, I nailed that workout. We did a VO2 max ladder (3/4/5/6 — 10 @ LT — 6/5/4/3) with two minutes of active recovery in between each. My HR was right on, my pace was fast and I felt awesome — and hurt at the end, which means I did it right. Nearly every interval at 6:30 pace or faster. Then I had a great 4500m swim this morning. Killing my last few tough ones equals huge confidence boost going into taper.
I’ll be at the beach for a week starting tomorrow — baking in the sun, reading books unrelated to work or triathlon and hanging out with my family. I’ve been counting down the days.
