Ironman, Just For Fun, Video

Crowdsourcing: Ironman Playlist, Finish Pose

It’s race week, y’all!

I’ve got a lot of last-minute details to wrap up before I head to Madison on Thursday — packing, mostly — so I thought I would open the floor for suggestions on two of the items on my to-do list.

First, I need a pre-race playlist to get my psyched in the 24 hours leading up to the race. I know the atmosphere will be plenty good for that, but some good music to get me focused and my head in the game while I’m doing all my race-day prep would be great. Suggestions in the comments section, please! Bonus points for country songs…

Second, I still haven’t picked my finish-line celebration. I want to do something memorable that matches the excitement I’ll be feeling when I hear Mike Reilly say — finally — that I am an Ironman. I’d rather not look back at the race photos and see something lame, like me stopping my watch. You gotta soak up the moment, especially for your first one, right?

So  — this is fun:

And so is this:

I won’t reveal what I’m going to do — you’ll have to watch the live finish video or wait for photos — but feel free to suggest really absurd things that I could try.

Finally, this brings me to tears. We’re down to the final days, can you believe it?!?

  2. Ok, you said country so here are a few:
    – Days Go By, Keith Urban
    – A Good Day to Run, Darryl Worley
    – I Was Here, Lady Antebellum
    – This is My Town, Montgomery Gentry
And for non-country…. Pink (Raise Your Glass!), Kanye West (Stronger), Lady GaGa (Born This Way), Black Eyed Peas (I Gotta Feeling), Evanescence (Bring Me to Life), Linkin Park (Numb, Bleed it Out, What I’ve Done = all good!), and be sure to throw in a little Eminem for good measure.
    Good luck!

  3. there’s a sugarland song, i can’t remember the name but the chorus goes “Ain’t! No! rhyme or reason! no complicated meaning!” and it makes me happy. also, did i ever send you the link to where you can download my national half playlist? lemme know, it’s a bombass list. i’ll even add some new faves to it if you want.

also, if your finish line pic is your stopping your watch i will officially slap you. and make you do it all again. i don’t have any suggestions but i generally end up rocking the arsenio fist pump (see: kinetic) so you can borrow that if you want.

    • The song is It Happens! Love that one. Also, Stuck Like Glue. I agree with the ones above. I’d add Sing (the Glee version, not the My Chemical Romance version), Yeah 3x (Chris Brown), and definitely download Katie’s National Half playlist. It was key at mile 20 of Eugene.

Also, that video – yep, tears. Lots of them.

      • Here are some more:

Barefoot Blue Jean Night (can’t think of who sings it)
Long Hot Summer (Keith Urban – I think?)
Most of the Sugarland Incredible Machine album

  5. I would do a cartwheel too- or a straddle jump! Good luck next week – my go-to music playlist consists of all the 80s hair band metal
